Phoenix, AZ (July 8, 2019) – New information has been released after a deadly auto accident that happened on Thursday, June 27th.
Officials say they responded to an incident near 35th Avenue and Durango Street around 11:00 p.m. to assist a vehicle that crashed into the canal.
Court records now show that the person driving the vehicle, Kensley Cody Dayzie, 26, ran a red light and hit a concrete structure. At that point, his car went airborne and landed upside down on the embankment before sliding into the canal.
Witnesses told police that the car was going about 80 mph just before the collision occurred. Dayzie and the officer made it out of the water safely, but officials believed another person may have still been in the vehicle.
When the vehicle was recovered by police, the body of 27-year-old Daria Quimayousie was found inside.
According to officials, Dayzie told police that he drank “about a half a bottle” of rum before the crash. Court records also show that his preliminary blood alcohol content level was .199.
Dayzie is being held on a $250,000 bond for second-degree murder.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family.
