Gilbert, AZ – UPDATE: Teenager Killed in Bicycle Accident at Elliot Rd & Greenfield Rd

Gilbert, AZ (September 25, 2019) – A 15-year-old girl has died after she was seriously injured in a crash late Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, the 15-year-old succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The girl, who was a sophomore at Gilbert High School, was hit and killed while riding her bicycle near Greenfield Road, Elliot Road, and Guadalupe Road.

According to officials from the Gilbert Police Department, the girl was crossing the road while riding her bicycle at the canal trail crossing located on Greenfield Road. As she was crossing, she was struck by an unknown vehicle.

The 57-year-old driver of that vehicle stayed on the scene and cooperated with officers, who commented that they were not impaired when the crash occurred. Detectives are still investigating the cause of the wreck.

The City of Gilbert said that they had a project slated to begin next year, near Greenfield and Elliot, to install a pedestrian crosswalk but is looking at expediting the construction in light of this tragic accident.
