Phoenix, AZ (September 20, 2019) – Officials from the Phoenix Police Department arrested three men after a hit-and-run collision that occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
The hit-and-run vehicle’s driver brandished a gun at the victim before fleeing the scene, according to Phoenix police. The driver, 17, was booked into the Juvenile Corrections Center for aggravated assault and suspicion of theft of means of transportation, according to Sgt. Maggie Cox, spokeswoman for the Phoenix Police Department.
The passengers in that vehicle, Jonny Diaz, 21, and Kevin Valenzuela, 18, were also booked on suspicion of theft of means of transportation, as well as drug-related charges. A fourth passenger in the vehicle was released.
The hit-and-run wreck happened around 3:30 p.m. at 3500 N 27th Avenue, east of Interstate 17 and northeast of Grand Avenue. The victim of the hit-and-run followed the at-fault driver but was then confronted by the driver, who exited their vehicle and brandished a gun at the victim.
The driver then fled the scene and continued to the area of 1700 West Osborn Road, where he was involved in another minor collision. Phoenix paramedics were at the scene to assist the victim of the accident, though it appears the victim was treated at the scene.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Hit-and-Run Wrecks in Arizona
More than 65,000 individuals are injured each year as a consequence of car accidents across the state, with nearly 1,000 fatalities resulting from those injuries. Many of these accidents are hit-and-run wrecks, where an at-fault driver leaves the scene of an accident. Though it is illegal to leave the scene of an accident in Arizona, hit-and-run wrecks are still prevalent.
Hit-and-run wrecks leave victims in a tough position. Victims may face financial difficulties, injuries, and emotional trauma after a hit-and-run accident. But those affected can seek help from an accident lawyer, and in some cases, seek the justice and fair compensation they deserve after a crash.
