Phoenix, AZ (November 11, 2019) –
A motorcyclist died Friday after colliding into the side of another vehicle in north Phoenix.
The crash occurred just before 7 p.m. in the 2100 block of West Thunderbird Road.
Bill J. Mussell, 23, was traveling west on Thunderbird Road when he struck the side of a 2017 Nissan Versa traveling in the opposite direction. The Nissan was attempting to make a left-handed turn into the private drive of an apartment complex, according to a press release Saturday from the Phoenix Police Department.
The motorcyclist was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a helmet while driving a 2006 Harley Davidson, police say.
According to Mussell’s Facebook page, he was from Seligman and studying at Arizona State University.
The 20-year-old woman driving the Nissan was not injured in the collision, according to the press release.
While it was at the exit of the apartment complex, a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by a 23-year-old man was also struck by the Nissan as it rotated upon impact by the motorcycle, police said. He was not injured, police added.
Both drivers of the Nissan and Chevrolet were determined not to be impaired, according to the press release. Their names were not released by police Saturday.
No criminal charges had been filed as of 9 a.m. Saturday, according to Detective Luis Samudio, a spokesperson for Phoenix police.
The investigation is ongoing.
Our condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with any injured victims in hopes of a full recovery.
