Tucson, AZ (November 16, 2019) – The bicyclist involved a hit-and-run collision with a vehicle on Tucson’s south side Friday, Nov. 15 has died.
The Tucson Police Department identified the cyclist as 45-year-old Eric Michael Noriega, according to a press release from TPD.
Police briefly closed South Park Avenue between East 22nd Street and east 29th Street to east Silverlake Road.
At 3:09 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of east 27th Street and South Park Avenue. Personnel with the Tucson Fire Department transported Noriega to Banner University Medical Center, where he died later that day from injuries suffered from the collision.
Investigators said Noriega rode his bike in the bike lane when the suspect, who is believed to have driven a dark-colored pickup truck similar to a Ford Ranger, hit Noriega from behind and left the scene.
Noriega was not wearing a helmet at the time, according to the release.
Investigators determined speed does appear to be a factor in the collision. Anyone with information should call 88-CRIME.
